Serving Miami and all of South Florida

Two offices, one team, and clients from Homestead to Fort Lauderdale.

Solo practitioners in Miami-Dade and Broward are usually asked for proof of professional liability coverage at three moments: by the Florida Department of Health under the state's financial responsibility rules, by each health plan during credentialing and by the facility or landlord where they see patients. A provider in Hollywood who rents space inside another clinic may have to match the coverage that clinic requires of its tenants, which is not always the same as what a plan asks for. We line up those requirements before requesting quotes so the policy you apply for satisfies all of them.

Visits are by appointment. Most of the work can also be done remotely.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about this service. For anything else, call us or ask the assistant.

Is Overthink an insurance agent?

No. We do not sell or bind insurance. We help you understand what coverage you need, collect and compare quotes from insurers, prepare the application and handle the paperwork; the insurer decides whether to issue the policy and on what terms.

Who needs professional liability insurance in Miami?

Any licensed provider who sees patients on their own account: physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, therapists, counselors and other clinicians. In South Florida you will be asked for proof of it by the Florida Department of Health under the financial responsibility rules, by every health plan during credentialing and by the facility or landlord where you practice.

What is the difference between claims-made and occurrence coverage?

A claims-made policy covers claims reported while the policy is active, which is why tail coverage matters when you leave it; an occurrence policy covers incidents that happened during the policy period regardless of when the claim is filed. We explain what each means for your situation before you decide.

What will the insurer want to know about me?

Your Florida license and specialty, training and board status, the procedures you perform, where and how many hours you practice, and any prior claims or disciplinary history. We help you present that information completely and accurately.

How much does professional liability insurance in Miami cost?

The premium is set by the insurer based on your profession, specialty, procedures, hours, claims history and the coverage limits you choose, and it differs between Miami-Dade, Broward and the rest of the state. We do not quote prices; we gather quotes from several insurers and explain the differences in the first conversation.

I am leaving my employer's policy. What should I check?

Whether the old policy was claims-made and needs tail coverage, what limits your new plans and facilities require and whether there is any gap between the two policies. We line those up before you request quotes so the new policy starts where the old one ends.

Do health plans require this coverage before credentialing?

Yes. Plans in Miami-Dade and Broward ask for the policy face sheet as part of provider credentialing and set minimum limits, and the same document goes into your CAQH profile. We make sure the coverage you apply for satisfies every plan you intend to join.

Can you help a foreign-trained physician buy coverage for the first time in the US?

Yes. Insurers ask for the same information as they would from any provider, but the training and work history have to be documented in a way they can verify, and our bilingual team prepares that file with you in English or Spanish, by appointment or remotely.
