Serving Miami and all of South Florida

Two offices, one team, and clients from Homestead to Fort Lauderdale.

In South Florida, a single business can hold a Miami-Dade or Broward County business tax receipt, a city receipt, a certificate of use and one or more state licenses from the Florida DBPR or another board, each on its own renewal cycle. Cities from Palmetto Bay to Pembroke Pines also change their requirements from time to time, so a renewal that was routine last year may ask for new documentation this year. Businesses that operate seasonally, such as event vendors and hospitality suppliers on Miami Beach, are the most likely to let a renewal lapse during a quiet month.

Visits are by appointment. Most of the work can also be done remotely.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about this service. For anything else, call us or ask the assistant.

What happens if a license or receipt expires?

Depending on the authorization, you may face penalties, be unable to operate legally or have to reapply from scratch rather than renew. Bringing an expired item current is usually more work than renewing on time, which is why we track the calendar.

How does business license renewal in Miami work with Overthink?

We compile every county, city and state authorization your business holds with its renewal cycle, notify you ahead of each one about the documents needed, prepare and submit the renewal, and confirm it was accepted before filing the new certificate in your records. If you are still applying for the first time, start with our business licenses and permits service.

Do I renew the city and the county business tax receipt separately?

Yes. Miami-Dade County or Broward County renews its receipt on its own cycle, and the city where you operate, from Hialeah to Hollywood, renews its own, sometimes together with the certificate of use. Each office has its own portal, requirements and pace, and a change of address or ownership affects both.

What information do you need from me?

Copies of your current licenses, permits and receipts, your Sunbiz and FEIN details, and notice of any change in address, ownership or activity since the last renewal. We build the calendar from there.

Can you handle renewals in several cities at once?

Yes. We work with businesses that hold receipts in different municipalities across Miami-Dade and Broward and coordinate each one according to that city's own process and documentation.

How do state licenses from the Florida DBPR or other boards fit in?

Contractors, cosmetologists, real estate professionals and other regulated trades in Davie or Homestead renew their state license on a cycle set by the board, often tied to continuing education, and the local receipt usually depends on that license being active. We keep both on the same calendar so one lapse does not cause the other.

How much does a business license renewal in Miami cost and how long does it take?

It depends on how many authorizations you hold, in how many cities and counties, and whether any of them changed requirements or lapsed. Each agency sets its own charges and processing pace. We list what applies to your business in the first conversation, alongside the Florida annual report that keeps the entity itself active.

Can renewals be handled remotely, and do you work in Spanish?

Yes. Most renewals are filed through agency portals, so the whole process is remote, with your documents shared securely and reminders sent before each cycle. We explain each requirement in Spanish or English, by video or by appointment at our Palmetto Bay or Sunrise office.
