Serving Miami and all of South Florida

Two offices, one team, and clients from Homestead to Fort Lauderdale.

Florida has no state personal income tax, so payroll withholding here is federal only, but employers still register with the Florida Department of Revenue for reemployment tax and must handle new-hire reporting. South Florida payrolls have their own wrinkles: tipped staff in hospitality, seasonal hires during the winter, bilingual employees who want pay stubs explained in Spanish, and owners who employ family members and need to do it correctly. Correct worker classification is also a frequent question in construction and delivery businesses from Homestead to Davie.

Visits are by appointment. Most of the work can also be done remotely.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about this service. For anything else, call us or ask the assistant.

What do I need before running my first payroll?

A FEIN, your Florida reemployment tax account, each employee's completed onboarding forms and identification, pay rates and a decision on pay frequency. If you still need the federal number, our EIN number application page explains that step; we help you set up any of these that are missing.

What do payroll services in Miami include with Overthink?

Registration for federal withholding and Florida reemployment tax, employee and contractor onboarding, each pay run with stubs or direct deposit, payroll tax deposits, quarterly and annual filings, and the year-end W-2 and 1099 forms. You get a bilingual consultant who tells you in advance what will be withdrawn and when.

Should I pay someone as an employee or a contractor?

That depends on how the work is controlled and organized, not on what is convenient. We review the role with you against the criteria the IRS and the state apply and set up the payment correctly.

Does Florida have state payroll withholding?

No. Florida has no personal income tax, so withholding from paychecks is federal only. Employers still register with the Florida Department of Revenue for reemployment tax and report new hires to the state, which is where many South Florida owners get caught out.

How does payroll work for tipped employees in a Miami restaurant?

Tips are wages for tax purposes, so they have to be reported, taxed and shown on the pay stub alongside the hourly rate. Restaurants in Miami Beach and Hollywood also deal with rotating schedules and seasonal staff. We set up the tip reporting with you so each pay run reflects what the employee actually earned.

How much do payroll services in Miami cost for a small business?

It depends on how many employees and contractors you have, how often you pay them, whether tips or multiple locations are involved and how the setup starts. A three-person office in Plantation and a restaurant with twenty seasonal hires are different workloads. We size it with you in the first conversation.

Do you handle payroll taxes and filings too?

Yes. We calculate and deposit the payroll taxes and prepare the quarterly and annual filings at the federal and Florida level, and we tell you in advance what will be withdrawn and when. The payroll records then flow into your bookkeeping so labor costs are visible.

Can payroll be handled remotely and explained to my staff in Spanish?

Yes. Timesheets and onboarding documents move electronically, pay runs are processed remotely and we meet by video or at our Palmetto Bay or Sunrise office when needed. Employees who prefer Spanish get their pay stubs explained in Spanish.
