Level 2 screening touches an unusually large share of South Florida's workforce because the region's economy leans on healthcare, home care and services for older adults, from assisted living facilities in Sunrise to home health agencies in Kendall and Hialeah. Employers here expect candidates to arrive already fingerprinted and registered in the AHCA Clearinghouse, and a mistake in the ORI or profile code means starting over. We complete the fingerprinting at Overthink by appointment, in English or Spanish, and walk you through what the agency does with the results.

Visits are by appointment. Most of the work can also be done remotely.

What is a Level 2 background check in Florida?

It is a fingerprint-based screening that searches Florida records through FDLE and national records through the FBI. Florida law requires it for positions of trust: healthcare, childcare, education, elder care, foster and adoptive parents, and several DBPR licenses. A Level 2 background check in Miami almost always starts with a Live Scan.

What is the difference between a Level 1 and a Level 2 background check?

In Florida, a Level 1 check is name-based and searches state records and employment history. A Level 2 check is fingerprint-based and includes a national FBI criminal history search along with the state check, and it is the one required for positions of trust under Florida law.

Who requests the Level 2 screening, me or my employer?

Usually your employer or licensing agency initiates it and gives you the ORI and any profile number. You then complete the fingerprinting. Bring those codes and a valid photo ID to your appointment so the submission is linked to the right request.

How does the AHCA Clearinghouse work for healthcare workers?

The Clearinghouse is the AHCA system where Level 2 results for healthcare and related workers are stored and shared among participating agencies. Your employer initiates the screening there, you complete the fingerprints and photo, and the result is retained so a future employer in the Clearinghouse can often use it instead of starting over. What should I bring to my appointment?

A valid government-issued photo ID, the ORI and any profile or provider code from your employer or agency, and your Social Security number if the agency requires it. If the screening is through the Clearinghouse, we also take the photo the system asks for.

Will Overthink see my criminal history results?

No. Results go from FDLE and the FBI to the agency that requested the screening; we only see that the submission was accepted. If your agency reports an issue, we can help you understand the next steps, but the decision is theirs.

How much does a Level 2 background check in Miami cost and how long do results take?

The fees depend on the ORI and the type of screening, because FDLE and FBI processing charges differ by purpose, and the time the agency takes to review results is outside our control. We confirm the scope for your ORI when you book. Contact us

Do you serve Broward, and can I get help in Spanish?

Yes. Level 2 fingerprinting is done by appointment at our Palmetto Bay office for Miami-Dade and at Sunrise for Broward, in English or Spanish. The fingerprinting itself is our Florida Live Scan service; if you also need your own federal record, for example for a process abroad, see our FBI criminal record page.
